Orchard of Flavours is a wonderful, informative, generous gift to the planet.
I am fortunate to live near this regenerative project. I plan to visit regularly, take more workshops and contribute to the ongoing vision by continuing to improve my soil, using less water and more mulch. You don't have to take a workshop, just make contact and enjoy the splendour of healthy trees, the banana circle and more.
A visit should be on everyone's list of "must do" whether you love growing or not. You will learn so much and will want to pass on the joy of what is possible.
Miguel is a kind person with a lot of knowledge to share. A great way to learn about a wide variety of exotic plants and fruit from all over the world that can be successfully grown here in the Algarve.
I would highly recommend it for anyone interested in sustainable farming, gardening and delicious fruit. It's a good learning opportunity for children too.
Impressive garden with lots of different, rare fruits and edible plants.
They're testing out the limits of what can grow in the Algarve in order to adapt to new conditions caused by climate change and other factors. We had the chance to taste a bunch of exotic fruits and learn about what can grow even in our garden at home.
An insightful and yummy experience!
Incredibly exciting tour through an extremely species-rich botany project.
While looking for a farm to visit, we came across Orchard of Flavors. After a short contact with Miguel via WhatsApp, we had the opportunity to take part in a 2-hour guided tour. Miguel is simply a walking encyclopedia of botany. Personable, charismatic and with a love for plants, trees and shrubs that I have never experienced before. There is also a lot to try in autumn and although I thought I knew a lot of fruits and vegetables, there were probably 5 - 10 varieties that I had never heard of and even fewer that I had ever tried. The tour was entertaining and very interesting.
For anyone who wants to learn more about their food or the possibilities of plant cultivation or anyone who is just a foodie, more than a recommendation! When have I tried a pink caviar lime in my life??!
I organised our local gardening club to visit Pomar dos Sabrores. I had contacted Miguel in advance to arrange the visit. He was there to meet and greet us all. Our tour of the orchard exceeded all our expectations.
This is a young orchard and what has been achieved in the short time it has been going is amazing and inspiring. Every tree has full detailed information about its origins, planting and fruiting. The variety of plants was outstanding and we were especially taken with the red bananas and red cane sugar beet. Everything growing there has a purpose and is organic.
We came away with plant seeds, samples and information. We will definitely be returning.
A treasured experience seeing and learning about this beautiful project.
Given an in-depth guided tour of the pioneering work of this botanical garden, and an opportunity to see close up and personal such special drought resistant plants and trees from all over the world.
Time flew by. Many thanks!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this wonderful farm.
Miguel is a visionary trying to inform others of how to mitigate climate change by adapting & re-visioning our collective approach towards agriculture through sustainable water management & food forest creation. Miguel is amazingly knowledgeable, kind and a deeply dedicated steward of our planet.
Our group highly recommends this inspiring & constructive tour if ever in the Algarve. Thank you, Miguel!
A young but thriving educational edible botanical garden in the south of Portugal.
Miguel has done incredible work collecting and growing a diverse range of edible species and performing experiments to learn what can grow in the Algarve region. We attended a morning tour where Miguel showed us the grounds, explained various planting designs and unique species.
We also had the chance to taste some fruits and edible plants. A unique and inspirational experience.
The workshops run at the Orchard of Flavours are extremely worthwhile. I have now attended two different ones and each time I have learnt so much.
The information is provided in a well organised and easy assimilated way, with plenty of time for questions. Their open approach to sharing all their experiences, both good and bad, is refreshing and walking round the Orchard it is easy to see their expertise in practice.
It is a fabulous Orchard.
Memorable experience, the knowledge about plants is impressive. I recommend this place without reservations!
