Orchard of Flavours, near Tavira in the Algarve, takes a different focus: it's a living collection of over 500 species and varieties of fruit trees and edible plants from warm climates around the world, from mango and feijoa to lesser-known finds like the cotton candy tree. Like the university gardens in Coimbra and Lisbon, it is accredited by Botanic Gardens Conservation International — but its focus stays firmly on food.

In the Algarve, Orchard of Flavours offers private guided tours led personally by founder Miguel Cotton, focused on tasting fruit as you walk and learning how each tree adapts to a hot, dry climate.
