Visitor Safety & Garden Guidelines

Welcome to the Garden!

Please read these guidelines carefully before beginning your visit. This is a living, working botanical garden of subtropical edible plants. For your personal safety and the preservation of our collection, please respect the following rules:

🚫 Do Not Forage or Ingest.

Please do not pick, eat, taste, lick, or chew any plant, fruit, seed, leaf, or sap. Many parts of subtropical plants — even prized edible species — are toxic when unripe, unprepared, or uncooked. Only taste what is directly offered to you by a team member, or what is clearly marked as edible with a sign. Our team is always available to help and answer questions.

⚠️ Watch Your Step and Surroundings.

Be mindful of sharp thorns, spikes, falling branches, and naturally uneven terrain. Please wear closed-toe shoes. For your safety and the health of the plants, stay on the paths and do not step into the planted beds.

👶 Supervise Children.

Children must be accompanied and closely supervised by an adult at all times. Please ensure they do not wander into the planted beds or put any plant material in their mouths.

🤧 Allergy Awareness.

Certain species in our collection (including mango, fig and latex-bearing plants) can cause skin reactions, even from a light touch. If you have sensitive skin or known allergies, please refrain from touching the plants.

🐕 Pets on Leashes.

Well-behaved pets are welcome but must be kept on a secure leash at all times. Because many of our exotic plants are highly toxic to dogs and cats, please strictly prevent your pet from chewing or licking any vegetation.

☀️ Sun and Hydration.

The Algarve sun can be intense. Please protect yourself from sun exposure and stay hydrated. Drinking water is readily available at our honesty bar.
